In 2017, a local Edmonton gaming company started in 1995 by three local doctors announced their office relocation to Edmonton downtown core’s EPCOR Tower. The company would move into the 3 floors of office space, totaling 75,000 sq feet in August 2019.
Kasian Architecture Interior Design & Planning Ltd, awarded the Architectural and Prime Consultant/Contract Administration role of the project, are well acquainted with EPCOR Tower. They were the Architectural designer of the LEED Gold certification building during its construction in 2011.
DJ Hamelin, Interior Designer and the Project Manager for the project, acknowledged Onware as a “great tool to keep things straight” for the short project duration. Designing an office space for a gaming company involved unique requirements, including complex drawings, which Onware effectively managed. Hamelin found Onware useful for tracking documents because it served as a “central repository” when working with both external and internal project stakeholders. Internally, Kasian engaged staff from both their Edmonton and Calgary’s offices to assure the right mix of expertise and knowledge for successful project execution.
These sentiments were further echoed by Taryn Bailey, the winner of Onware’s social media “Nespresso Coffee Package Giveaway” in 2019. Taryn was one of Govan Brown & Associates Limited team members on the project. In her interview for the social media giveaway, she recalled how straightforward it was to upload documents into Onware.
Jared Hagen, Senior Project Manager for Govan Brown & Associates Limited, and Jody Elliott, Senior Project Manager for Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), also provided feedback on their experiences with Onware. Both expressed Onware as “easy to use”. Jared liked how it sorted documents, such as RFIs, Shop Drawings, PCNs, while Jody commented Onware’s reporting “was great at illustrating all necessary data to manage the project effectively”.
Amongst Jared and Jody’s positive experiences with Onware, valuable feedback was also communicated: the need to “drill down” through hyperlinks to access supporting documents/information was time consuming and confusing. Feedback, such as this, is welcomed and sought out by the team at Onware. Our company is proud of our robust user feedback review process used to identify areas of improvement and drives our software roadmap.
To address Jared and Jody’s pain point, we implemented a new functionality called “Package”. Jody describes this addition as a “night and day” difference, even going so far as to say she has “no more complaints” using Onware. As a result, Jody continues to use Onware for contract administration on other construction projects.
“Package” is a convenient one-click real-time PDF document generation that combines all supporting documents in a predefined order, with no need to “drill down” using hyperlinks and is available across the Onware contract administration software.
